Discontinuing the Daily Digest
With sadness, I must announce that I will no longer be publishing daily digests for the Mystic’s Almanac. This project was always something of a gamble - an attempt to use Substack in a way it had never been used before, as both a digest and an educational program with a platform-specific reference library. I had hoped the daily posts would fill a necessary niche in contemplative education - providing regular inspiration and variety - that would help motivate practitioners to actually practice. This might have worked, if Twitter and Substack’s relationship had not soured just as this project launched, and choked off the primary method of promotion. Who can say?
Alas, as it stands, there are too few paid subscribers (and among them, too few daily users of the almanac) to justify the continued time and effort. The daily digests can take up to an hour to create, and the process has recently become rote, rather than joyous and inspired. I don’t want to produce another piece of inbox clutter.
To the users that signed up to support me, I’m deeply grateful to you. I’ll still be publishing essays regularly, and I intend to do so even more often, now that I no longer need to produce the daily digests. I will also soon announce a new incentive for paid subscribers.
Of course, I will understand if you decide to cancel in the interim, or for good. If you paid for a yearly subscription and are unsatisfied, please e-mail me and I will refund you ten months’ of subscription fees. But I hope you will not, and will have faith that I will make your subscription worth the while.
To those of you that have enjoyed and benefitted from the daily digests, thank you so much for being a part of this with me. I have removed the paywall on the Encyclopedia and all the reference materials, so they will remain available to you for use in your practice. I expect that they will serve as a foundation for future contemplative education projects, and I encourage you all to use them in your own.
If you have any questions or comments, please e-mail me or reach out to me on Twitter.
With love and gratitude,
VV
