Good morning. Today is May 17th, 2023. The great poet and Tendai Buddhist monk Jien was born on this day in 1155. For his great historical work, Jottings of a Fool, and the many beautiful poems he composed, the country of Japan now remembers him as one of their Thirty-Six Immortals of Poetry.
